Office on Veterans Blvd. near 17th St. Canal expected to be open as early as late November, official says
The head of the state Office of Motor Vehicles says a new state-of-the-art motor vehicles office under construction on Veterans Blvd. near the Jefferson-Orleans parish line could be open as early as late November.
Stephen Campbell tells 99.5FM, "It will be equipped with state-of-the-art everything in it to help us facilitate people's needs with motor vehicle functions in the New Orleans and east bank of Jefferson Parish to a great extent as well."
Campbell says the new office will replace the one on Airline Drive near David Drive.
"We're gonna close that on a Friday and open the new facility on Veterans Highway on a Monday," Campbell said.
It's hoped the new facility will reduce the length of time it takes for a person to renew their drivers license or take care of any other motor vehicle business.
The project is being funded mostly with FEMA funds, Campbell said.
Campbell says they're also looking for a site to locate a new motor vehicles office in New Orleans East.
