Orleans Parish D.A. drops kidnapping charge against driver and JP officials reportedly drop their investigation
Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro has dropped a kidnapping charge filed against a New Orleans cab driver who also was accused of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old female passenger September 29th.
Assistant D.A. Christopher Bowman told Fox 8, "we promptly looked at the evidence, or more to the point lack thereof, and performed further investigation and promptly determine the charges weren't warranted."
NOLA.com reports that authorities in Jefferson Parish have also dropped their investigation. They reportedly found "inconsistencies" in the woman's story and she chose not to pursue charges.
60-year-old Pervez Iqbal, a driver for the American Taxi company was arrested on October 3.
The woman had told police she passed out in the cab and woke up naked on a mattress in Metairie with a man on top of her.
