Visitors center near Morgan City sank into swampland just weeks before it was to be completed
That visitors center near Morgan City that sank last June into the swampland it was being built on just weeks before it was to be completed remains closed as a mediator decides who's responsible for paying for repairs and how much.
The building was to be the new home of the Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau.
The bureau's executive director, Carrie Stansbury, says the architect, the contractor, the structural engineer and the soil engineer for the project, as well as Cajun Coast, have brought in a mediator to help resolve the payment issue.
"We're eager for all the parties to work together for a peaceful resolution, and we hope we can get all of this completed before the new year," Stansbury said.
Stansbury says all parties involved think the building can be salvaged.
