City releases second part of three-part study
A consulting firm hired by the city of New Orleans to study the city's criminal justice system is recommending that traffic court be merged into the municipal court system.
The Public Financial Management Group says Orleans Parish has more separate court systems than any other parish in the state.
The company says such a merger would result in "greater efficiency" based on current staffing patterns of the court.
PFMG also recommends centralizing and improving fee and fine collections and reducing overall staffing levels through the creation of a single judicial administrator.
