Search launched for candidates to fill the position
The LSU Board of Supervisors has voted to consolidate the positions of LSU System President and Chancellor and launched a search for candidates to fill the post.
Although a vote was not expected, the idea had been under discussion for several months.
The positions of President and Chancellor are being held on an interim basis by former LSU System chief William Jenkins. Jenkins was appointed to serve as president after John Lombardi was removed in April. He then added the responsibilites of chancellor in May when Michael Martin moved on to a new job in Colorado.
The decision to merge the two positions has the support of Governor Jindal.
He issued a statement after the vote saying the consolidation will allow LSU "to compete with the best universities in the country.
"A more competitive LSU is good for our state's economy, our workforce and most importantly our students," he said.
