There will be no cuts in services, but proposed spending plan does not offer pay raises for parish employees

Jefferson Parish President John Young is proposing a $562 million budget for the parish for 2013.

Young tells 99.5FM under the proposed spending plan, the parish would be able to offer the same level of services that it's offering now, but it won't be able to offer pay raises for parish employees.

"We're projecting a zero percent growth in sales tax revenues due to the sluggish economy. We're budgeting very conservatively."

"We're hoping that once the Presidential election is decided and there's some certainty going forward that our economy, our national economy will improve, and we'll see some uptick in our sales tax collections," Young said.

The proposed budget is now in the hands of the parish council and needs to be adopted by the end of the year.
