Houma man charged with breaking into neighboring apartment where woman and two your daughters were found stabbed to death
A suspect has been arrested in the ongoing investigation into the stabbing deaths of a Lockport woman and her two young daughters at their apartment on Elliott Drive early Sunday.
34-year-old David Brown of Houma has been charged with breaking into an adjacent apartment around the time of the murders and committing battery on an occupant. When questioned about the slayings, Brown invoked his right to counsel.
The bodies of 29-year-old Jacqueline Nieves, 6 year-old Gabriella Nieves and 20-month old Isabella Nieves were found following a fire reported by the husband and father of the victims.
Investigators say each of the victims had been stabbed at least once and they believe the fire was intentionally set.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says the husband and father of the victims cooperated with investigators who found no evidence implicating him in the crime.
Sheriff Craig Webre says detectives have developed "compelling evidence" in the case and expect to bring additional charges against Brown.
