Runoffs Ahead For N.O. City Council Seats

LaToya Cantrell to face Dana Kaplan in District B, Austin Badon and James Gray to meet in District E runoff

Runoff elections will be held December 8th to fill two seats on the New Orleans City Council.

In the District B runoff, LaToya Cantrell will face Dana Kaplan.  Cantrell collected 38% of the votes cast Tuesday while Kaplan finished with 32%.  Eric Strachan placed third with 25% while Marlon Horton garnered 6%.

The winner will fill the unexpired term of Stacy Head who was elected to a council-at-large seat.

In District E, the runoff will feature Austin Badon and James Gray III.  Badon captured 47% of the votes cast Tuesday while Gray collected 30%.  Dana Henry finished third with 9%, Jerelda Drummer Sanders was fourth with 8% and Mary Fontenot Smith finished last with 6%.

The winner of the runoff will fill the seat left vacant by Jon Johnson who resigned in disgrace after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.
