Psychiatric department within coroner's office needs more funding to handle community's increased psychiatric needs, coroner says
Officials with the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office told the City Council Thursday that the psychiatric department within the office needs more funding.
They say psychiatric services offered in the area have decreased since Hurricane Katrina, increasing the need for the services provided by the psychiatric department.
"The number one thing we have to take care of is our psychiatric needs, and we can only do so much here," Coroner Frank Minyard said.
The Council heard from Minyard and other officials on the proposed 2013 budget for the coroner's office during budget hearings Thursday.
