One new case reported in Jefferson Parish
State health officials report that two more persons have died from West Nile Virus in Louisiana as a total of 12 new cases were reported within the past week.
One of the new cases was discovered in Jefferson Parish, the only new case detected in metro New Orleans.
A total of 356 cases have been reported statewide this year, the most ever.
West Nile has been present in Louisiana since 2002 when the state experienced 328 cases.
DHH Secretary Bruce Greenstein says officials expect it to remain "an annual threat."
"Be vigilant about protecting your health by avoiding mosquito bites," he advises.
