Weapon found during search of school Wednesday
A 15-year-old student was arrested Wednesday after the student allegedly brought a gun to Ponchatoula High School.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says the gun was discovered during a search conducted by school personnel and sheriff's deputies.
There were no details on the type of gun that was found, nor did the sheriff's office offer any comment as to why the student may have brought it to school.
The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Florida Parishes Detention Center.
During the search, the school was placed on lockdown.
In a written statement, the sheriff's office says "students handled themselves with patience and maturity."
"We assure you that all safety measures and procedures were followed to ensure the safety of all on campus," the department said.
