State transportation officials requested proposals from companies to operate the ferries and received none
Efforts to privatize the Crescent City Connection's ferries have gone nowhere.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) says the department received no responses from its request for proposals from companies interested in running the Algiers and Gretna ferries.
It's not clear what DOTD will do next. Spokeswoman Bambi Hall says the agency is considering all options.
"There are a lot of things being considered, including charging for the ferries, whether they be under DOTD or not."
Hall says the Chalmette ferry will continue to be funded by DOTD.
"There's a dedicated $4 million to fund the Chalmette ferry," Hall said.
