Council passes resolution urging the Legislature to mitigate the impact of state budget cuts on medical school and uninsured
The New Orleans City Council passed a resolution Thursday urging the Legislature to mitigate the impact of state budget cuts on the uninsured and the LSU School of Medicine.
Council Vice-President Jackie Clarkson, the lead author of the resolution, said, "I'm begging the Legislature to come together, work with the governor so that he does not - and let me make this clear - he does not make drastic cuts to LSU Medical School."
Clarkson expressed concerns that cutting the medical school's budget would hurt the development of the city's BioMedical District, of which the medical school would be a part.
"Without this facility fully funded or well funded, we are putting the state of Louisiana, its health care system and especially New Orleans in great peril."
