Weekend of sports and other activities blamed for slow day on Saturday
The turnout for early voting in Orleans Parish has been lower than expected in the early going.
"Early voting began this past Saturday and as you know this weekend was filled with sports and other activities so at our City Hall location very few people showed up to vote," Sandra Wilson, Orleans Registrar of Voters, said Monday in an interview with WRNO. "I would encourage all voters to come out and participate in all elections."
Early voting for the December 8 elections continues daily through Saturday from 8:30am to 6pm at registrar of voters offices across the state.
Residents of New Orleans city council districts B and E will elect new council members.
Also on the ballot are a parish-wide vote for 3-1-1 and a second city district judges seat.
Voters can find more information about poll locations and sample ballots at their websites www.geauxvote.com and www.sos.la.gov
