Bicyclist was killed November 10 on state highway 445 in Tangipahoa Parish
A 51-year-old Hammond man has been charged in a fatal hit and run crash November 10 that claimed the life of a bicyclist.
Michael Murtaugh has been charged with negligent homicide and hit and run driving.
The victim of the crash, 58-year-old Bruce Burge of Hammond, was struck while riding his bike along LA 445 about two miles north of U.S. 190 in Tangipahoa Parish. His body was found hours later near the shoulder of the road.
Louisiana State Police say Murtaugh became the subject of investigation after an off-duty trooper discovered his car, a 2004 Saturn sedan. Charges were filed against him after physical evidence was examined by the LSP Crime Lab.
Murtaugh surrendered to troopers on Thursday morning and was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
