Complaint made by supporter of Boustany's opponent in Saturday's runoff
A complaint filed with federal elections officials accuses Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany of paying a Democratic political organization for its endorsement, but hiding the arrangement on campaign finance reports.
Christian Gil, leader of the Republican Party executive committee in St. Mary Parish, lodged the allegations with the Federal Election Commission. Gil is a supporter of Boustany's opponent in Saturday's runoff, Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry.
Boustany campaign manager John Porter denied the accusations, calling them a desperate attack by Landry supporters.
United Ballot backed Boustany and President Barack Obama on an endorsement card distributed in the Lafayette area before the Nov. 6 election. PAC leaders haven't returned repeated messages seeking information.
The FEC confirmed it has received Gil's complaint, but didn't say whether an investigation would be conducted.
