Streets around Superdome and Superdome exit from Pontchartrain Expressway to close Saturday

New Orleans' preparations for the 2013 Super Bowl include road closures, and the first round of closures begins Saturday at 7am.

Lt. Col. Jerry Sneed, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, tells 99.5FM, "The Superdome exit will be closed and the roads in, around and behind the Superdome and in between and around the Arena will be closed starting tomorrow."

"We have to do this in order to start some of the security elements that we have to have in place for the Super Bowl event," Sneed said.

Road closures include Dave Dixon Drive, Magnolia Avenue, West Stadium Drive, Howard Avenue and Sugar Bowl Drive. The Superdome exit from the Pontchartrain Expressway will also be closed.

City officials say traffic restrictions will intensify moving closer to the Super Bowl and on game day, Feb. 3.
