ESPN reports it's "doubtful" the coach will return before the Super Bowl

ESPN reports that no timetable has been set for a meeting between NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Sean Payton to discuss Payton's reinstatement.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday that one league source said it was "very doubtful" a meeting would be held before the Feb. 3 Super Bowl game in New Orleans, while another said "flat out it wouldn't happen."

Last month, Goodell told owners in Dallas that preliminary discussions had been conducted internally regarding Payton's return to the Saints and that those conversations would become more focused after the holidays.

Payton and the Saints recently agreed to a five-year contract extension that would reportedly pay him more than $8 million annually and make him the highest paid coach in the NFL.

He has been off the job since mid-April of last year.
