Attack occurred Sunday evening at victim's home
A 51-year-old man has been charged with raping an 83-year-old woman at her home on Avenue L in Marrero Sunday evening.
The woman was sexually assaulted in her bedroom after walking into her residence and finding the perpetrator in the living room. The suspect fled with some of the victim's jewelry after she told him police were on the way.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says Kenneth Adams was taken into custody in the 6600 block of the Westbank Expressway minutes after a description of a suspect was broadcast.
Adams allegedly resisted and was taken into custody following a brief struggle.
Investigators report that jewelry belonging to the victim was found in his possession.
Adams has been charged with aggravated rape,aggravated battery, battery of a police officer and possession of stolen property.
