Driver blew 2-and-a-half times the legal limit shortly after dropping off 49 children
A 26-year-old school bus driver in Calcasieu Parish was charged Monday morning with DWI shortly after he dropped off 49 children under the age of 12 at school.
Matthew Richard of Sulpher was pulled over for traveling 75-miles per hour in a 55-mile an hour zone. The empty bus reportedly was weaving and operating over the center line on Louisiana Highway 27 about 6 miles south of DeQuincy.
Louisiana State Police report he blew 2-and-a-half times the legal limit when he took a breath test.
Troopers reportedly found an open bottle of alcohol in Richard's possession and they say it apparently had been stolen from a supermarket earlier in the day.
Richard was charged with child endangerment, speeding, improper lane usage, possesion of an open container and theft under $500.
