Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl to host the first semifinal games in the new playoff system on Jan. 1, 2015

An official with the Allstate Sugar Bowl says they're thrilled the Sugar Bowl will host one of the two inaugural semifinal games in the new college football playoff system on Jan. 1, 2015. The Rose Bowl will host the other semifinal matchup.

"To have two of the most revered bowl organizations in the country in the Sugar and the Rose hosting the first semifinal games, there'll be a great spotlight on the event, and then we'll get things kicked off and moving down the road in a very positive fashion," says Chief Operating Officer Jeff Hundley.

"We're again very proud of the position that we're in and we think that it's one that's gonna serve the interests of the city and state very well in terms of economic impact and helping us continue our mission of tourism via amateur sporting events here in the city," Hundley said.

The BCS conference commissioners announced the dates and rotation for all 12 years of the new postseason format earlier this week.
