33-year-old Keana Barnes broke out of the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women Jan. 1
A 33-year-old prisoner who escaped from the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women January 1 reportedly has been spotted in the New Orleans area several times since fleeing the prison in St. Gabriel.
Keana Barnes was serving 25 years for manslaughter in the 2004 death of Perry Jennings, Jr., of Algiers.
State corrections officials say Barnes has been seen "multiple times" in the area including Marrero.
Authorities suspect she may be getting help as she eludes police.
Persons with any information are urged to contact Crimestoppers. The reward for information leading to her arrest has been raised to $5,000.
