Limited resources hinders city from cracking down on homeowners trying to rent their homes to Super Bowl visitors

A spokesman for the Landrieu administration says limited resources makes it difficult for the city to crack down on homeowners trying to make big bucks by renting out their homes to Super Bowl visitors.

It's illegal in New Orleans to do that, yet illegal short-term rentals are being advertised on websites like Craigslist.

City spokesman Ryan Berni says because of limited resources, the city mostly tries to discourage the advertising of illegal short-term rentals, but the city can take further enforcement action.

"When there are multiple complaints on a property, we send them an administrative subpoena which basically asks the resident to cease and desist and to come into compliance by getting the proper permits."
