An NOPD officer was reported to be in good condition Sunday after being shot in the leg while making an arrest outside a convenience store in New Orleans East.

Officers went to the Brothers Food Market in the 7000 block of Bullard Avenue around 2AM in response to a complaint about a man causing a disturbance inside the store.

According to the NOPD, a man leaving the store, 41-year-old Damon Jones, matched the description of the person who had caused the disturbance.

Jones was placed in handcuffs, but he reportedly was able to grab an officer's firearm as he was being placed into a police vehicle and pulled the trigger.  The bullet struck the officer in the leg.
