Police say victims were attending an "illegal block party"
One man was killed and another seriously injured Saturday night in a shooting incident at an "illegal" block party in the 1800 block of Conti Street.
As NOPD officers who were on patrol went to investigate loud music and the activities of a large crowd, shots were fired.
As the crowd dispersed, officers found a 21-year-old man lying in the street. Police say the victim who was wearing an electronic monitoring device suffered wounds to his head and body and died on the scene.
A second man was shot in the neck and rushed to University Hospital for surgery.
The perpetrator escaped under the cover of the fleeing crowd.
