Crawfish boils for Super Bowl and Mardi Gras could be impacted, La. Crawfish Farmers President says

People planning crawfish boils for the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras may have to search longer to get the crawfish they need.

Louisiana crawfish are in short supply. Rainy weather and cold snaps are being blamed for the shortage.

"Is it gonna cause problems for Super Bowl week and Mardi Gras? That's also a good possibility," says David Savoy, President of the Louisiana Crawfish Farmers Association.

Boiled mudbugs are still selling for an average of $4 a pound, and Savoy says he wouldn't be surprised if the price goes up.

For a better price, he suggests "buy it from the farmer and boil them yourself. That's your best deal. You're gonna get the freshest product out there."
