Dave Dysart has been hired by an American company with international operations

David Dysart, who became Jefferson Parish's emergency management director in late 2011, is leaving the post next week to take a private sector job.

Dysart, who was St. Bernard Parish's homeland security director prior to taking the Jefferson Parish job, told The Times Picayune he was "aggressively sought'' for months by an American firm with international operations.

He would not name the firm or discuss details about the terms of his employment, but said he will work in emergency management in Saudi Arabia and other international locations.

Dysart, who is also a chief administrative assistant, will work in the parish until Feb. 22. He said he took the new job "for the benefit of my family and careeer."

Parish President John Young said Dysart had "a tireless work ethic" and will be missed.
