Public cooperation sought in minimizing trash in construction areas

The city of New Orleans is asking the public to help minimize Mardi Gras-related trash and debris in construction areas along portions of South Claiborne Avenue and Napolean Avenue where federally funded drainage projects are underway.

Parade-goers are asked to avoid lining up in those areas and parade riders are urged to avoid throwing beads and other items in those areas.  The affected areas are South Claiborne from Monticello Avenue to Lowerline Street.

Portions of the area are used as parade staging sites and spectators have lined up in those areas in the past to catch throws before the parades roll.  The city says that effectively clearing those construction areas of parade debris will pose a challenge for contractors and the Department of Sanitation.

The city is asking Krewe members to only throw beads and other items along their parade route as permitted by the NOPD.
