17-year-old also injured when device goes off

A 19-year-old Pearl River man was killed and a 17-year-old male was injured when a homemade explosive device went off Sunday night at a residence in the 39000 block of St. Paul Drive.

St. Tammany Parish deputies were dispatched to the area after a neighbor reported hearing a loud noise.

When they arrived around 7:30PM, they found a man dead outside the home and the 17-year-old inside the house with injuries.  Near the body, they discovered a homemade device that apparently exploded as it was being constructed.

The exact composition of the device was not immediately determined. The incident is being investigated by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
