Included in that number were 289 made during Super Bowl weekend
Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman reports 1,681 persons were arrested during an extended 2013 Mardi Gras season that included the Super Bowl weekend.
Charges ranged from the more typical Carnival-related violations, such as lewd conduct, public drunkenness and disturbing the peace to more serious violations, including drug arrests and violent crimes.
Included in the final tally were 289 arrests made during the weekend of Super Bowl XLVII, between Feb. 1 and Feb. 4.
"Deputies and other law enforcement officers were able to respond and process arrests quickly, which meant an enjoyable and safe celebration for locals and visitors alike," Gusman said.
