Victim was hit by gunfire at her house on 5th Street
An 81-year-old woman was fatally shot late Friday night while in her house in the 300 block of 5th Street in Bridge City.
Doretha Richardson suffered multiple wounds in the incident which occurred just before midnight. Her body was found on the floor of her kitchen.
Investigators say three other persons including a 3-year-old girl were inside the house at the time of the shooting and none of them was injured.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says bullet casings lined the street leading to the front door and anda multiple shells were found inside the house.
Detectives were trying to develop a possible motive for the incident.
