Says he's concerned about Hagel's record on the Middle East and the defense of Israel
Senator David Vitter says if it comes up for a vote, he plans to vote "no" on the nomination by President Obama of former Sen. Chuck Hagel to be the nation's next defense secretary.
Vitter says Hagel should not be defense secretary because of his record on the Middle East and the defense of Israel.
"My top concern by far is his long record of votes and statements that call into question the defense of Israel and his commitment to it," Vitter said.
Republicans last week delayed a confirmation vote, but they've indicated that one will be allowed when senators return to Washington from a break on Feb. 25.
