Incident occurred around 2:15pm Wednesday

A 17-year-old male student at John McDonough High School was shot Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and Broad Street.

Investigators say the victim suffered at least two wounds and was listed in critical condition.

Police were questioning a girl in the incident which occurred around 2:15PM at a bus stop, but no charges have been filed in the case.

It appears the shooting came during an altercation between two groups of students.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman says at least one of the teens involved in the altercation was wearing an ankle monitor.  On probation for a drug violation, Gusman says he was not in violation of his curfew at the time of the incident.

The principal of John McDonogh. Marvin Thompson posted an online statement and saying  "We take the safety and well being of our students and their community seriously and we are saddened to hear that this incident occurred a few blocks away from our campus. Our thoughts and prayers are for a full recovery for those injured. School will continue as normal."
