Susan Guidry is looking for answers from State Police, NOPD
New Orleans City Council member Susan Guidry says the Council will look into a recent incident involving two teenagers and a group of undercover police officers in the French Quarter.
The incident Mardi Gras weekend was caught on video. The video showed a group of plainclothes State Police officers and one NOPD officer quickly approaching the two teens and pushing one to the ground. It's still unclear what provoked the incident which ended almost as quickly as it began.
Guidry, who chairs the Council's Criminal Justice Committee, says she is "highly concerned" since it did not appear from the video that the teenagers posed a threat to the officers or to the public.
The incident is being investigated by the State Police Officer of Internal Affairs and by the Public Integrity Bureau of the NOPD. Guidry says the NOPD officer implicated in the incident "appears to have no direct involvement in what occurred other than being physically present in the area."
The District A council member says she has been told that details won't be released until the investigations are concluded.
"It is my intention that this incident will be addressed at a future Criminal Justice Committee meeting," she said.
