School is being shuttered by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament after 98 years
Ater 98 years, Xavier University Prep High School will close its doors at the end of the current school year.
The announcement came Wednesday night from the operators of the school the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond says the Archdiocese is "saddened and surprised" by the decision to close the Catholic High School for girls.
"We did offer financial resources to the Sisters, but the Sisters, while grateful, declined our offer," he said.
Aymond says while the high school is not owned by the Archdiocese, the Office of Catholic Schools will work with Xavier's administration and other Catholic high schools to "offer Catholic education to these young women."
