Two of the dogs were killed by zoo personnel

For the second time this year, a variety of animals at Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo were attacked and killed by dogs.

Monroe Police Sgt. Mark Johnson tells The News-Star officers were notified around 8 a.m. Thursday of an animal complaint at the zoo.

Johnson says three dogs, believed to be pit bulls, entered the zoo and killed three African scimitar oxen, one guanaco and one addax antelope. Police said these were considered exotic animals and were on loan from other zoos.

Johnson said two of the dogs were killed by zoo personnel and one escaped.

On Jan. 6, a pack of stray dogs attacked two Boer goats at the zoo. The goats suffered injuries so severe they had to be euthanized.
