Department releases computer sketch of man they wish to speak with

The NOPD has released a computer-designed sketch of a man they identify as a "person of interest" in the shooting of an NOPD officer last Saturday morning at the Dollar General store at the corner of Poland and St. Claude Avenues.

The man, an African-American believed to be around 30-years-old, has a thin build and a strap beard.  He was last seen at the bus stop on the lake side of St. Claude Avenue between 6:30 and 7:05am on the morning of the shooting.

A $10,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest in the case.

41-year-old officer John Passaro was shot twice by a would-be robber who fled after the shooting.

The Times-Picayune reports that a review of police communications makes it appear that Passaro did not know that a suspect was still in the store when he arrived on the scene.  The 3-year NOPD veteran was shot within 90 seconds of his arrival.
