The victim, who suffered severe burns, refused to testify

A 42-year-old New Orleans man has been convicted of battery for pouring boiling grits on his wife, then hitting her in the head with the pot.

The Times-Picayune reports Arthur Porter was found guilty of aggravated second-degree battery, for the grits, and simple battery, for the beating with the pot.

The wife suffered severe burns.

The couple got into a fight in October 2011. He took the pot of boiling, scalding-hot grits and poured it on his wife, then used the pot to hit her on the head.

The wife declined to cooperate with the District Attorney and refused to testify against her husband at his trial this week.

An Orleans Parish jury found Porter guilty as charged.
