4 Republicans are vying for District 79 seat which represents West Metairie and North Kenner
Voters in Louisiana House District 79 in East Jefferson Parish will go to the polls Saturday to elect a new representative in the parish's first election of the year.
Four candidates, all Republicans, are running for the seat which represents West Metairie and North Kenner. The seat was formerly held by Tony Ligi, who resigned to take a position with the Jefferson Business Council.
Registrar of Voters Dennis DiMarco says he expects low turnout on Election Day as less than one percent of the registered voters in the district voted early.
"Unless the candidates do an outstanding job of getting the vote out, you could see a very low turnout," DiMarco said.
NOTE: Because of a change in state law, the polls will open at 7am instead of 6am, but will still close at 8pm.
