Bacteriological tests confirm city water safe to drink
A precautionary boil water advisory issued Sunday morning for the East Bank of Orleans Parish was canceled Monday afternoon after bacteriological tests confirmed the water in the city is safe to drink and use for personal needs.
With the advisory canceled, residents and businesses are advised to flush their internal and external plumbing by running water through their systems for several minutes.
Water service was disrupted across a wide area of the city following a small fire at the S&WB power plant that damaged a boiler at the facility. Water pressure dropped to a trickle in many neighborhoods as outages were reported from Lakeview to the Marigny to Uptown.
