Peter Galvan is now subject of state and federal investigations
Federal prosecutors are investigating the spending practices of St. Tammany Parish Coroner Peter Galvan.
The government reportedly has issued subpoenas for a variety of records including those related to the use of credit cards and the aquisition of equipment including tractors, trailers and boating supplies.
Also subpoenaed were the calendars and date books of Galvan and key employees.
St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister has called on the Louisiana Attorney General to investigate various media allegations of malfeasance by the Parish Coroner, Peter Galvan.
The allegations already are being investigated by the state legislative auditor.
Galvan has offered no public comment but has hired a criminal defense attorney who reportedly advised him not to appear before the St. Tammany Parish Council to answer questions from council members.
Questions have been raised about Galvan's spending practices and about his moves to cash out vacation time over the past two years when it has been alleged he took vacation trips with his wife to Europe and Mexico.
There also have been questions about his spending on restaurant meals and purchases at retail stores.
