House Speaker Chuck Kleckley wants them by March 15
Gov. Bobby Jindal will unveil the details of his proposed tax code rewrite to lawmakers by the end of next week, honoring a request by House Speaker Chuck Kleckley.
Jindal spokesman Sean Lansing said the proposal will be offered to the House by March 15. Lansing's comments came within less than a half hour after Kleckley released a letter pressing for the specifics of the governor's plan.
The House speaker says the House Ways and Means Committee wants to begin its hearings March 19 to comb through the proposal. Lawmakers will decide whether to back the rewrite in the legislative session that begins in April.
Jindal has proposed getting rid of state income taxes, in exchange for higher and more sales taxes, removal of some tax breaks and other changes.
