Now that Republican Congressman Charles Boustany has decided not to run for the U.S. Senate in 2014 against Mary Landrieu, the talk has turned to who is the frontrunner among potential GOP candidates.
The Washington Post says it's Baton Rouge Congressman Bill Cassidy, but UNO Political Science Professor Ed Chervenak has two others in mind.
"I would say either Jay Dardenne (Lieutenant Governor) or John Kennedy (Treasurer) because they're both proven vote getters," Chervenak said.
Chervenak says both Dardenne and Kennedy enjoy strong name recognition, they both know how to raise money and they both have run campaigns before.
Chervenak places Kennedy and Dardenne in the top tier of potential challengers, rating them about even.
