Each have been suspended without pay
Two NOPD officers, one of them a Lieutenant, have been placed on emergency suspension without pay after being charged with battery and malfeasance in office.
The charges were filed against Lt. Mike Field and Officer Jamal Kendrick in connection with separate alleged beating incidents last year.
Field is accused of repeatedly striking an Alabama teenager who was handcuffed and seated in the Eighth District Police Station on Royal Street on February 19, 2012. The teen had been arrested for public intoxication. Field is a 28 year veteran of the department.
Kendrick is accused of strking a motorist who was handcuffed following a chase and a traffic stop on October 13, 2012. Kendrick joined the force in September 2009.
