40-year-old prisoner was found at Baton Rouge hotel
A 40-year-old inmate who escaped Friday from the tent jail at the Orleans Parish Prison has been recaptured in Baton Rouge.
Mitchell Manning was taken into custody without incident shortly before 11AM Sunday at a Baton Rouge hotel.
Authorities also arrested a 30-year-old woman on a charge of assisting in a simple escape. Tawaina White allegedly admitted to providing cash and a cellphone to Manning.
Manning had been booked into the jail January 11, on charges of domestic abuse battery, home invasion, simple criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Prior to his arrest, he had been free on a bond of $45,000, awaiting trial on a charge of distribution of cocaine.
He now faces additional charges of simple escape and damage to property.
A deputy discovered damage to a tent while patrolling the perimeter of the area shortly before midnight. The sheriff's office says each tent was staffed properly at the time of this incident.
