Suspect from New York surrenders to state police
A 48-year-old New York man has been charged with shooting his ex-girlfriend and her father at their home on Fitzsimmons Road in the Covington area Tuesday night.
Authorities say the woman was shot in the chest and her father suffered a graze wound to his head. The female was listed in guarded condition at a hospital on the south shore.
The suspect, Stephen Krell, fled the scene following the shootings and drove to the headquarters of State Police Troop L to surrender.
The St. Tammany Sheriff's Office says there was a history of domestic abuse in the relationship between Krell and the injured woman, including an incident which occurred last Christmas. The ex-girlfriend obtained a protective order and Krell was served late last month at his home in New York. Krell allegedly continued to harrass her via phone and Facebook.
Krell has been booked on charges of attempted first-degree murder, stalking and violation of a protective order.
