Ends two weeks of speculation about his possible candidacy
Louisiana's Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne says he won't challenge Mary Landrieu next year in her bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
Dardenne ended two weeks of speculation about a possible candidacy in an interview with LaPolitics Weekly.
"I'm not going to run for the U.S. Senate," he told LaPolitics.
"This fell in my lap. I didn't go out looking for it. So I'm not going to prolong the question any longer. I love what I'm doing and I will continue to do that for the balance of my term."
Other possible GOP challengers are congressmen Bill Cassidy and John Fleming, and former congressman Jeff Landry.
