State is looking for a dedicated funding stream for the 252 decorative lights

The Young Leadership Council has launched a social media campaign in an effort to get the decorative lights on the Crescent City Connection turned back "on".

Jefferson Parish Council member Chris Roberts wants the Regional Planning Commission to call a special meeting to approve the acceptance of any donation the YLC might make to keep the lights on.

Without a dedicated stream of funding, officials with the DOTD says it's unlikely the lights will be turned on.  Officials have estimated the cost of maintenance and electricity at $60,000 annually.

YLC President Richard Pavlick tells 99.5FM the non-profit, non-partisan civic group has a Facebook page - facebook.com/saveourlights.

"People can go to that page. We ask them to 'like' the page to show their support for getting the lights back on immediately, and keeping them on," Pavlick said.

"We're taking the support and the information from this page and we're going to be taking it to public officials and saying these lights are important to people and we need to turn them back on," Pavlick added.

YLC is also planning to launch a PR campaign consisting of a series of videos of well known people in the community pitching why the bridge is important and why it should be illuminated.
