Charged with stealing from two women who employed her as a personal assistant
A 72-year-old Slidell woman has been accused of stealing more than $2 million from two women who she worked for as a personal assistant for the last 28 years.
Sgt. Sean Beavers, of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, says Janice Ricks Linam was booked March 14 on two counts of bank fraud. She was released after posting $500,000 bond. Information on whether she has an attorney was not immediately available.
Beavers says that the son of one of her employers contacted the sheriff's office in December after discovering irregularities in his mother's finances. Investigators found that Linam allegedly had been writing checks totaling more than $450,000 from her employers' personal accounts.
The family later hired a forensic accountant, who uncovered an estimated $2.1 million in questionable transactions.
