GOHSEP director says first responders "good to go" for upcoming season
In preparation for the 2013 hurricane season, the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) held a training exercise involving some 450 first responders at Fontainebleau State Park Saturday.
The purpose of the drill was to test the readiness of agencies to respond to a statewide emergency.
GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis says the exercise went very well.
"I wanted to see our process from picking up the residents all the way through to transportation to a shelter, and then how are we gonna know who they are, and also including pets in that," Davis said.
Davis says based on the results of the drill, he's confident first responders are ready for the upcoming hurricane season, which starts June 1.
